Melchior was born Danish and felt himself a Dane all his life. He lived in the USA most of his life and became an American citizen. And he active career was based on singing Wagner in German. He observed himself as a German singer. His fantastic career in opera was more or less concentrated on only 7 operas: Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, Tristan und Isolde, Die Walküre, Siegfried, Götterdämmerung and Parsifal.
